7ab Erasmus+ return visit from Slovenia
Biomass Power Plant
On Friday the 24th of March 2023, the students of the 7th grades visited the biomass power plant in Hall in Tyrol together with the Slovenian students as part of the sustainability project. In the morning, the classes were welcomed by a member of the Hall AG and briefly introduced to the topic. Afterwards they were guided through the power plant, where they received some important information about the use and the structure of the different technical elements.
The biomass power plant in Hall in Tyrol is an important part of the energy industry in the region. It was built in 2012 and is operated by the Haller Stadtwerke GmbH. The biomass burned in the power plant mainly derives from regional sources (Bavaria). This enables climate-friendly energy generation, as the combustion only releases as much CO2 as was previously absorbed by the plants.
The biomass power plant has a capacity of 5.5 megawatts and can thus produce around 36 million kilowatt hours of electricity per year. This covers the annual consumption of more than 8000 households. In addition, the heat generated during electricity production also covers part of the heating requirements of the town of Hall in Tyrol.
The biomass power plant in Hall in Tyrol thus makes an important contribution to the energy turnaround and the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions. It shows that a sustainable energy supply is possible and that even smaller towns and communities can make their contribution to achieving climate targets.
To sum up, the excursion introduced us well to the importance of sustainibilty in energy supply.
